Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on Ghanaians to rally behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming elections to protect the Free Senior High School (SHS) program.

Speaking in the Upper West Akim constituency, Napo highlighted the life-changing impact of the policy, which has eliminated financial barriers for millions of students.

“From 2013 to 2016, about 100,000 children each year passed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) but couldn’t continue to SHS due to financial constraints, despite being qualified. Today, these barriers have been removed, giving 5.7 million young people the chance to receive education, regardless of their circumstances at birth,” Napo explained.

He criticized opposition calls to “reset” Ghana, warning that such a move would reverse progress and return the nation to a time when many children were left “in hopelessness and despair.”

He stressed the importance of continuity to preserve this equalizing policy, urging voters to support both Dr. Bawumia for the presidency and Hon. Frederick Obeng Adom for re-election to Parliament.
