Election 2024: EC urges patience, vows to deliver credible voter register to NDC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured that it will conduct a comprehensive voter exhibition exercise and deliver a credible voter register for the upcoming December elections.

This assurance comes in response to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) demanding the immediate release of the provisional voter register ahead of the December 7 general elections. The NDC’s Director of Elections, Dr. Boamah, expressed concerns on Facebook, blaming the delay on what he described as the EC’s incompetence. He suggested that this delay could be a deliberate attempt to present political parties with a sub-standard register.

Boamah issued a stern warning, stating that the NDC and other stakeholders are “deeply concerned that the posturing and incompetence of the EC and its IT Department can plunge Ghana into anarchy if not remedied immediately.”

In an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, Director of Training at the EC, dismissed these allegations. He urged the NDC and other stakeholders to be patient and cooperate during the exhibition process to ensure that all challenges are addressed.

“Why would we fight the same people who are going to help us do the work? We all know the quantum of work to be done… So, they should understand it, and once we give it to them, they and the voters and everybody will help to contribute, and by the time we finish the eight-day exhibition, we will identify all the challenges and rectify them,” Dr. Quaicoe explained.

He further reassured that the EC is committed to providing a high-quality final register at the conclusion of the exhibition process. “They should all expect that when everything is done, we will give them the final register. So, we will do good work and give them the final register, which will be a quality register,” he concluded.
