The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has announced that it will hold presidential and vice-presidential debates in October 2024.

Despite earlier criticism from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) about a lack of engagement, the IEA has since reached out to various political parties to ensure their participation.

IEA Distinguished Fellow Justice Sophia Akuffo emphasized that the debates will provide voters with a clearer understanding of each candidate’s policies and offer a platform for candidates to be evaluated.

“The IEA envisages holding the encounters in September and the debates in October and November. We will announce the precise date, time, and venues after conducting engagements with candidates and their political parties”, she said.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has repeatedly called for a debate with NDC’s John Dramani Mahama on economic and national issues.

However, the NDC has rejected these calls, accusing Bawumia of trying to revive his political career.
