The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare, alongside the Police Management Board, has dedicated Sunday, November 24, to visiting churches across the country to promote peace ahead of the December 7 general elections. The initiative aims to encourage peaceful conduct before, during, and after the elections.
Speaking to the congregation at the Church of Pentecost in Accra New Town, Dr. Dampare urged the church to continue praying for peace in Ghana. However, he emphasized that prayer alone was not enough and must be complemented with deliberate actions to maintain law and order.
He appealed to Ghanaians to collaborate with the police in ensuring that the 2024 general election becomes the most peaceful in the nation’s history.
“We have come to say thank you to all of you in connection with these upcoming elections,” Dr. Dampare stated. “The way we have allowed ourselves to be used as a vessel by the good Lord in conducting ourselves in a manner that has led to a situation where so far, with all the election processes, we have not heard anything [bad].”
He praised the country for the peaceful atmosphere thus far during the electoral process, attributing it to divine guidance and collective efforts. “Nothing has happened beyond us such that the peace we are experiencing during this election period has never happened before. It is because of the good Lord and his mighty hand upon our country and allowing ourselves as a vessel for his use,” he added.
Dr. Dampare’s visit highlights the critical role of collaboration between citizens, religious bodies, and law enforcement in preserving peace and security during the electoral process.
