The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed serious reservations about the Electoral Commission’s (EC) final voter register for the upcoming elections.

Despite EC Chairperson Jean Mensa’s assurances that the register is ready and that all issues have been resolved to ensure a credible election on December 7, 2024, the NDC remains doubtful.

At a meeting with party representatives in Accra on Wednesday, Mensa conveyed confidence that any remaining concerns had been addressed. However, in an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Dr. Rashid Tanko Computer, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, voiced the party’s ongoing objections, noting several unresolved issues with the register.

Dr. Tanko specifically criticized the absence of supporting statistics in the register provided by the EC, arguing that these details are essential for transparency. “They brought the register, and they themselves didn’t even know the statistics of the register. We raised objections to that… They don’t have it. The proper thing is that they should provide you with statistics,” he said.

He further pointed out that EC officials had returned to their offices to continue working on the document, suggesting it was not yet ready. “As of now, they have all run to their offices working on the document. If they had it by now, they would have pulled it out,” Dr. Tanko added.

The NDC’s concerns reflect a cautious approach as the election day nears, emphasizing the need for a transparent and thoroughly verified voter register.
