The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will win more parliamentary seats in upcoming General Elections than the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), according to the latest polls by research firm Outcomes International.
The research report shows that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will win 52% of all the parliamentary seats, translating to about 144 seats out of the total of 276 seats.
The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to trail with 36% of the seats, which means the party will win 99 seats out of a total of 276 seats.
“The findings indicate that 52% of the respondents are likely to vote for the NPP candidates while 36% are likely to vote for the NDC candidates. However, 7% indicated that they will vote for none of the candidates in the Parliamentary elections. In comparison, 5% suggest that they will vote for other candidates other than the NPP and NDC candidates,” the report said.
The researchers went to great lengths to explain key components of their survey which was conducted between August 15 and September 15, 2024.
“A quantitative research design was adopted for this study. The target population consists of all registered voters in the 2024 general elections, which is estimated to be about 17,000,000 people.
The study used multistage Probability Proportional to Size sampling (PPS) with implicit stratification to reduce the operational cost of the survey and better represent the country…The main purpose of this survey is to identify the likely winner of the December 2024 general elections,” the report said.
Bawumia victory
The report has also predicted Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is poised to win the 2024 Presidential Election in Ghana, leading with 49.4% of the vote.
Former President John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), trails closely with 45.1% of the vote.
The poll, conducted between August and September 2024, surveyed thousands of registered voters across all 16 regions.
According to the findings, Dr Bawumia is expected to secure victories in 11 regions, while Mahama is projected to win in 5 regions. A small percentage (0.3%) of voters indicated support for other candidates, while 5.2% remained undecided.
13 candidates have been placed on ballots ahead of this year’s elections supervised by the Electoral Commission.
This poll reflects a tight race, with both Bawumia and Mahama competing closely, although Bawumia currently holds a slight edge.
