The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has disclosed that Osei Assibey Antwi, the former Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA), paid a Ghanaian Member of Parliament to “kill the story in the media and to defend them” in relation to the ghost names scandal.

Dr. Ayine, providing an update on the investigations led by the Office of the Attorney General and the ORAL team, stated that substantial headway has been made in exposing corruption linked to the scheme. He explained that, “Because these matters are still under investigation, I can confirm that the investigation will conclude in the National Service and the Sky Train Scandal by the middle of April for the prosecution to begin.”

He went on to detail the progress made in the National Service Scandal, noting that eight suspects have been interrogated and that many have begun to cooperate. “With the National Service Scandal, eight suspects have been interrogated and a good number of them have started singing. We now have evidence of payments that were made into the accounts of the top executives of the National Service by private vendors of the scheme,” Dr. Ayine revealed.

Furthermore, he confirmed the evidence implicating the payment to silence the media. “We also have evidence that in November 2024, the CEO of the NSS and others paid a Ghanaian Member of Parliament to kill the story in the media and to defend them,” he stated.

This development marks a significant step forward in the ongoing investigation into corruption within the National Service Scheme, with the anticipated conclusion of the probe by mid-April paving the way for prosecution.
