Veteran Ghanaian international Nana Akwasi Asare has handed over the Gent armband to Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe ahead of the new Belgian Jupiler Pro League season.

Asare voluntarily gave the captain band to the Belgian international of Ghanaian descent after five years being in charge of the playing body.

Odjidja, 30, joined Gent in the summer of 2018 and has shown exceptional leadership qualities to take over from Asare who is getting to the twilight of his career.

Asare, 33, signed for Gent in 2013 from Utrecht and has made 207 league appearances, scoring four goals and providing 13 assists. His current contract expires on June 30, 2021.
