A top Ghanaian Lawyer, Yoni Kulendi, has been appointed to the nation’s apex court by President Akufo-Addo, Dailymailgh.com has learnt.

He is among two other Justices from the Court of Appeal who have been elevated to the bench of the Supreme Court.

The other two are Justice Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu and Justice Clemence J. Honyenuga.

Their appointment is subject to parliamentary approval as they replace three justices who are on retirement or are due for retirement this year.

A highly placed source told Dailymailgh.com that the trio will replace Justices Julius Ansah, Nasiru Sulemana Gbadegbe and Anthony Alfred Bennin.

In December 2019, President Akufo-Addo swore into office Justices Mariama Owusu, Avril Lovelace-Johnson and Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo to fill three vacancies at the Supreme Court.

The President, thus, urged the new Justices of the Supreme Court to help “build a new Ghanaian civilisation, where the rule of law is not a slogan, but an operating principle for the development of our State, so that the dreams of prosperity that animated the great patriots, who founded our nation, can find expression in our generation.”
