A man who pretended to be a qualified and experienced solicitor as he represented clients at the courts is facing a possible jail sentence.
Dennis Seyram Benson 42, was hired by the separatist group, Western Togoland, to be its legal representative in their ongoing trial at a district court in Accra.
The police CID said in a statement that the suspect was however arrested due to his suspicious demeanour at the Kaneshie District Court 2.
He was subjected to scrutiny by the police as it emerged that he may be an unqualified lawyer.
The police said, Benson, is now in police custody assisting investigations.
It will be recalled that in October 2020, the State re-arraigned the alleged separatists suspected of being behind violence in parts of the Volta Region only hours after they were discharged by Circuit Courts in Accra.
The Prosecutor told the court that the State withdrew the charges to enable it to bring all of them into one courtroom under a consolidated case.
Under an amended charge sheet, the State said it had no jurisdiction to grant the suspects bail since the crimes were not committed within the authority area of the court.
The suspects were charged, variously, with; treason felony, conspiracy to commit crime, namely, treason felony, conspiracy to commit crime, namely, participating in a campaign of prohibited organisation namely Western Togoland, conspiracy to commit crime, namely, causing unlawful damage.
The group wants a part of the Volta Region to be an autonomous country known as Western Togoland.
