Five personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service have been interdicted for aiding foreign nationals enter the country through illegal route at Aflao in the Volta region.
The five officers, Asst. Inspector Isaac Ahiafor Agbenyega, Asst. Inspector Sarah Adubea, ICO Juliana Anning, ICO Jennifer Owusu and R.O Joyce Nketia were interdicted on Thursday, 9 July 2020 for engaging in an act which constitutes an offence under Section 52(1) of the Ghana Immigration Act, 2000 (Act 573).
According to a statement from the GIS, their actions are not only in contravention of the Ghana Immigration Act 2000 but also amounts to a breach of the President’s directives on border closure to curb cross border spread of the deadly Covid-19.
“While on interdiction, you’ll be entitled to two thirds of your salary,” a statement from the command said.
Ghana’s borders remain closed until July 31, 2020 when the president is expected to update Ghanaians about measures being taken to control the spread of the coronavirus.
