A six-year-old girl has been killed after torrential downpour on Monday —bringing the number of deaths recorded in similar incidents across the Ashanti Regional capital to 12.

Emergency response team from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) was called to the gruesome scene after the body of the deceased was found at Moshie-Zongo, a surburb of Kumasi.

Her body was found at a filling station about a mile from where she was believed to have attempted to cross a drain that had a rapid water flow.

Upon hearing the news that his daughter had been swept away by floods, the father called for a search party.

Ashanti Regional NADMO Boss, Kwabena Nsenkyire, says the body of the deceased has been taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation.

Mr Nsenkyire says children between the ages of six and 10 are victims of the disaster that has occurred within one-and-half month, describing the situation as alarming.

Monday rains in parts of Ghana including the capital Accra was severe. The Accra-Tema motorway got flooded making vehicular movement difficult.

Earlier in October, at least 28 persons were killed in the Upper East Region.

Weathermen have also warned of more heavy rains in the coming fortnight.
