The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has reassured the public that no government-owned properties in Benin will be sold during his tenure. He emphasized that plans are underway to renovate and restore Ghana’s diplomatic facilities in the country.
During a recent working visit to Benin, Minister Ablakwa toured several properties acquired by the Ghanaian government in 1999. He noted that one of the properties, which had been abandoned in 2019 after a fire damaged its electricity meter, remains unoccupied.
Out of the six properties owned by Ghana in Benin, only one has been left unused. However, the Minister raised concerns about structural issues with some of the newer facilities, which have forced diplomatic staff to rent private accommodations at high costs.
To address these issues, Minister Ablakwa assured that initiatives will be taken to renovate and, where necessary, reconstruct the properties to ensure they meet the required standards. “No property will be sold under my watch,” he emphasized, reiterating his commitment to safeguarding national assets.
