Solomey Quarcoopome, a former cashier at the Ghanaian Times, has been accused by the Auditor General of allegedly misappropriating nearly GH¢100,000 in revenue over a two-year period. The accusations include failing to deposit collected revenues into the company’s accounts by tearing parts of receipts and, in some instances, hiding entire receipt booklets.
During an appearance before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on Thursday, August 15, Martin Adu-Owusu, the Managing Director of the New Times Corporation, disclosed that the case has been handed over to the police, and efforts are being made to recover the missing funds. Adu-Owusu explained, “We realized that there were some of the receipts she tore and she kept them. Some of the money was not banked, and even some of the whole receipts could also not be found.”
He expressed his disappointment in the situation, noting that Quarcoopome did not initially appear capable of such actions. “Unfortunately, this is what happened, and she doesn’t look like somebody who can do this, but when we put all the figures together, it was about GH¢100,000,” Adu-Owusu said.
Adu-Owusu further mentioned that Quarcoopome has already repaid a portion of the misappropriated funds, leaving an outstanding balance of GH¢70,275. He confirmed that she has been dismissed from her position and that the police are now handling the case.
