Four persons returning from a church programme on Saturday died in a canoe accident on the Volta Lake in the eastern part of Ghana.
Six others survived, according to local assembly man Issah Laweh in an interview with TV network GHOne TV.
The Assemblies of God Church members were making a trip from Senchi – 82km drive from the capital Accra – to Old Akrade in the Asuogyaman district of the Eastern region.
Canoe accidents on the Volta Lake is a matter of public concern in Ghana as locals refuse to comply with safety procedures. Passengers have often failed to wear life jackets leading to several deaths in the past.
Over 20 persons perished in a boat tragedy in 2016 on the Lake.
