Four boys got drowned in a river at Breman, a suburb of the Suame Municipality near Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.

The incident occurred at about 5:30p.m. on Saturday September 21, 2019— nearly 48 hours after a primary six pupil got drowned at Bantama-Kokoso in Kumasi.

The boys reportedly went to swim in the Nwabi River which had swollen up following torrential downpour earlier this week.

Three of the victims named as 9-year-old Clinton Gyimasu, Ezra Owusu Afriyie aged 10, and 9-year-old Agya-Wusu— were pronounced dead on arrival by medics at the Tafo Government Hospital.

Their bodies were deposited at the same hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

A fourth victim identified only as Baba and a resident at Tafo-Pankrono, was also pronounced dead after he was sent to the Ama Serwaah Clinic, a health facility which is a few minutes away from his home.

His family were yet to complete processes to convey his body for burial in accordance with Islamic tradition.

Assemblyman for Breman East Electoral Area, Joseph Sarfo told DailyMailGH that police have begun investigations into the matter.

“I had information that four boys had died this evening at the Nwabi River which separates Tafo-Pankrono from Breman. The police and the National Disaster Management Organization have been informed over the development. This is the first time this has happened in this area. As I speak to you families of the victims have been informed of the incident”, the Assemblyman narrated.

Residents who have been thrown in a state of shock were seen pondering over the issue.
