Franklin Cudjoe: I trust Mahama more than Akufo-Addo to combat corruption

Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, has voiced strong support for John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), regarding his commitment to fighting corruption.

At a town hall meeting held at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Monday, August 12, Mahama pledged to ensure accountability among public officials if elected president, as part of his strategy to combat corruption.

Despite criticisms, particularly from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Cudjoe expressed confidence in Mahama’s ability to fulfill his promises. He compared Mahama’s approach to that of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, highlighting differences in their records on corruption.

Cudjoe remarked, “I can understand the caution, but [President] Akufo-Addo is not John Mahama. At least we tested both. As I understand, [President] Akufo-Addo has walked back on some of his words many, many times. No haircut, he gave us a dubious haircut.”

He also criticized Akufo-Addo’s handling of illegal mining, saying, “Galamsey, he said he would put his presidency on the line and nothing has happened because the rivers are worse off now than ever before.”

Cudjoe concluded by expressing his preference for Mahama, stating, “I should be cautious, but I think I will trust John Dramani Mahama a bit more than [President] Akufo-Addo because unfortunately, [President] Akufo-Addo has proven not to be trustworthy on these things.”
