The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Education to resolve pressing issues raised by the leadership of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS).

This follows CHASS’s appeal for the prompt disbursement of outstanding funds to ensure the smooth operation of Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country. With SHSs scheduled to reopen for the 2025 academic year on January 3, CHASS cautioned that unresolved financial challenges could disrupt academic activities and jeopardize student welfare.

A communiqué signed by CHASS National Secretary, Primus Baro, outlined the difficulties faced by schools despite prior assurances. “These challenges persist, even after verbal commitments from the Minister of Education during a Zoom meeting on December 18, 2024,” the statement read. It further criticized the government for failing to fully address the financial crisis, despite partial disbursements of funds, which CHASS described as inadequate.

In response, GES issued a statement on January 2, 2025, signed by its Public Relations Officer, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, confirming efforts to resolve the concerns. “Management of GES is engaging the Ministry for a speedy resolution of concerns raised by the leadership of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS),” the statement noted.

GES also reminded the public that the academic calendar for 2024/25 remains unchanged. “We kindly request that all stakeholders take note of these dates and make necessary arrangements accordingly,” the statement emphasized.

According to GES, SHS students are expected to return to school on January 3, 2025, while primary and Junior High School (JHS) students will resume on January 8, 2025.
