The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that the academic calendar for the 2024/25 school year will remain as originally announced.

In a statement issued on January 2, 2025, the GES stated that Senior High School (SHS) students are to return to school on January 3, 2025, while primary and Junior High School (JHS) students will resume on January 8, 2025.

This clarification comes in response to concerns raised by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS). CHASS had urged the Ministry of Education to address financial difficulties faced by second-cycle schools, warning that unresolved challenges might hinder a smooth reopening. The group also called for a postponement of the SHS reopening date, citing the need for more preparation time.

However, the GES reiterated in its statement that the scheduled reopening dates would not be altered. It emphasized, “The academic calendar remains unchanged, and all levels of education are expected to reopen as planned.”

The GES called on students, staff, parents, and the general public to adhere to the announced schedule, ensuring a seamless start to the new academic term.
