A Ghana Armed Forces helicopter executed an emergency landing on Tuesday (19 March) at Bonsukrom near Agona Nkwanta in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.

The cause of the forced landing remains uncertain, but eyewitnesses reported that the helicopter attempted to find a suitable site for an emergency landing before losing balance and crashing into nearby trees.

The aircraft, which was conducting routine offshore powerline inspection of the Atuabo Gas plant, had 21 passengers onboard, including staff of the Ghana National Gas Company and aircrew.

While some passengers sustained minor injuries, fortunately, no fatalities were recorded. One injured individual was rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for emergency medical attention.

Security personnel managed the crowd that gathered at the site, while the military commenced preliminary assessments to determine the cause of the incident.
