Ghana’s captain, Andre Ayew, remains resolute about not retiring from the national team despite facing criticism following the Black Stars’ premature exit from the 2023 AFCON.

Ayew emphasizes that giving up is not an option for him, expressing his determination to contribute to the team’s resurgence.

The Black Stars experienced a setback in the tournament, failing to secure a victory for the second consecutive AFCON, accumulating just two points from Group B, which included Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.

A week after the team’s elimination, Ayew took to Instagram to extend his apologies to Ghanaians and shoulder responsibility for the collective failure. The 34-year-old, who all but ruled out retiring from international football, asserted that he would not give up and vowed to return stronger to elevate Ghana’s standing.

In an Instagram video, Ayew stated, “We’re Ghana, and everybody that knows me knows that I’m never going to give up, meaning we’re never going to give up. We’re going to rise and shine again. And we’re going to do this as a family.”

Amidst the aftermath, notable figures like musicians Davido and Sarkodie expressed their support for Ayew after his belated apology for Ghana’s disappointing exit from the 2023 AFCON.

On a positive note, Ayew, Ghana’s most capped player, made a remarkable return to club football, scoring twice in Le Havre’s 3-3 draw with Lorient in Ligue 1 last Sunday.

This comeback on the club level serves as a testament to Ayew’s resilience and commitment to making a significant impact both nationally and internationally.
