Ghana creates 4,750 job opportunities for young entrepreneurs

The government of Ghana says it has created 4750 jobs under its capacity building for young entrepreneurs and start-up initiative.

The Minister for Business Development, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal who disclosed this at the Meet the Press Series in Accra said in 2017, under the Presidential Business Support Programme (PBSP) Window one, 7,000 young entrepreneurs were trained with 1350 receiving funding.

Beneficiaries were selected from Eastern Regional Garages, Western Regional Garages, Ashanti Regional Garages, Makola Women Groups and Bonwire Kente Weavers. The rest are, Kumasi Central Market, Shoemakers Association, Smock Weavers Association and Asumbrungu Craft Group.

Under the Window 2 of the PBSP, the Minister said 12,000 businesses applied for training and funding, of which all 12,000 applicants have successfully received training.

“The Training provided an avenue for all applicants to get technical support, training, mentorship, business advisory services”, He said.

He added that, 3000 applicants out of the 12,000 trainees will receive Seed Capital to enable them start their businesses. He said seed capital will range between GHs10,000 and GHs100,000 per applicant with 10% interest per annum.

Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal added that, 2000 entrepreneurs were provided with entrepreneurship training nation-wide.

He said the training programme was undertaken between the Ministry of Business Development in partnership with the Institute of Creation and Development of Enterprises (INCYDE) of Spain. He said Participants were drawn from the 16 Regions of Ghana and were taken through topics including; Business Plans, Global Competitive Marketing, Accessing Finance from International Sources and Tapping into the Global Value Chain.
