Brighton and Hove Albion youngster Tariq Lamptey is dreaming of winning the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Côté d’ivoire with Ghana.

The Ghanaian defender recently played for the Black Stars at a major tournament for the first time in Qatar at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

He however acknowledged the need to qualify for the tournament first before thinking about winning the ultimate trophy.

He also stated the need to get himself in the best of shapes and gain more playing time in the English Premier League and UEFA Europa League with Brighton and Hove Albion.

“I am very excited. Obviously, there are a few steps before that — qualification first and league games I have to play to get myself into a competitive form.”

“But it’s an amazing competition and the ultimate goal will be to go and lift it,” he told Joy Sports in an interview.

“It will be amazing to play there and experience it and hopefully we can do well.”

The 22-year-old is currently working on recovering from an injury that kept him out for the final part of the season and hence has seen him miss out on the AFCON qualifier against Madagascar.
