Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has claimed that former President John Mahama has been tainted by corruption, contrasting this with NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who he asserts is free from such allegations.
Mustapha, speaking during Dr. Bawumia’s campaign tour in Wa, defended Dr. Bawumia’s integrity, stating, “Having worked with Dr. Bawumia, I can confidently say that he has never been involved in any corrupt activity. If anyone has evidence of corruption against him, they should come forward.” He emphasized that despite various criticisms, no one has been able to substantiate claims of corruption against Dr. Bawumia.
In contrast, Mustapha argued that President Mahama’s corruption allegations are well-documented. “He is the first president with concrete proof of corruption against him,” Mustapha said, citing the Airbus scandal implicated by London’s crown courts. He described Mahama as “super corrupt, fantastically corrupt, chronically corrupt, and overly corrupt,” asserting that the evidence against him is substantial.
Mustapha also criticized recent polling data from UK-based Fitch Solutions, which suggested President Mahama has a lead with 54%. He dismissed these findings, claiming they rely on data from Global Info Analytics, which he considers unreliable. “It’s a lie. We have checked with Fitch; they have not conducted any research themselves. They used data from Musa Dankwah, who is known for inaccurate research,” Mustapha said. He described the poll results as “preposterous” and doubted the NDC’s ability to secure such a significant lead.
