Ghanaian football legend Samuel Osei Kuffour holds a pragmatic view on Ghana’s chances in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast, stating, “Ghana will be under pressure, and it is all about planning; sometimes we forget to plan, but we prepare, and there is a difference between planning and preparation,” as shared on Kessben Sports.

Kuffour emphasizes the importance of strategic planning and believes that aiming for a quarter-final or semi-final spot would be a commendable achievement for the Black Stars.

However, he advocates for a comprehensive long-term approach, drawing parallels with Senegal’s successful strategy, stating, “If we want to achieve success, we should take a long-term approach like Senegal.”

While acknowledging the talented players in the Ghanaian squad, including Kudus, Partey, Amartey, Dede Ayew, and Jordan, Kuffour cautions against overconfidence, saying, “Now if you ask, they will say we have to go and take the cup. No, it does not work like that. It took Senegal how many years before winning the cup.”

Kuffour’s perspective aligns with a realistic assessment of Ghana’s historical performance, highlighting that the last time the Black Stars secured the African Cup of Nations was in 1982, overcoming Libya in a penalty shootout.

Despite the pressure and expectations, Kuffour advocates for a focused and strategic approach, emphasizing the need for thorough planning to achieve sustained success in future tournaments.
