At the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Asante Kotoko faced another setback on Sunday evening, losing their fourth game in a row to local rivals Nations FC.
This defeat makes it hard for them to compete for the title since they are now 10 points behind the top team. On the other hand, Nations FC hold onto second place, just two points behind the leaders, Samartex.
Although Kotoko started well and were eager to break their losing streak, Nations FC showed determination and skill, winning 1-0 with a goal just before halftime.
Asamoah Boateng Afriyie, the forward for Nations FC, scored the crucial goal, his 10th of the season, making him the league’s top scorer. His great performances have helped lift his team in the standings.
Kotoko fans were frustrated with some of the referee’s decisions, leading to security escorting the officials off the field at halftime.
During the game, Kotoko criticized the referee on Twitter, but many felt their own performance didn’t justify a win.
Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum is under pressure to fix these issues quickly to avoid being fired if Kotoko’s form doesn’t improve.
