Asante Kotoko secured a league double over their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak with a 2-0 victory at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday in a Week 31 Ghana Premier League clash.

In their first encounter of the season, held in Kumasi, Asante Kotoko triumphed with a 3-2 win.

In the latest match, Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala was the star, scoring both goals. He netted the first just nine minutes into the game, capitalizing on a precise overhead pass and calmly finishing despite being surrounded by four Hearts of Oak defenders. Mukwala sealed the victory with a second goal deep into stoppage time.

With this win, Asante Kotoko climbed to ninth place in the league standings with 43 points, while Hearts of Oak slipped to 13th place, just four points above the relegation zone with 38 points.

Asante Kotoko’s next match is against Accra Great Olympics on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for Week 32 of the Ghana Premier League.

Hearts of Oak will face Nations FC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, May 31, 2024, in their Week 32 fixture.
