Ghanaian giant Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC on Sunday afternoon defeated Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC in a highly competitive clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium with a narrow 1-0 victory.
The Porcupine Warriors faced a challenging series of matches, securing victories in only two encounters leading up to their clash with the Mauve and Yellow.
The Reds initiated the game with an impressive start, particularly with Steven Mukwala’s early strike that came agonizingly close, hitting the post. In response, Medeama made their presence felt, but Mohammed Kamaridini’s header was disallowed for being offside.
Throughout the first 45 minutes, both teams maintained defensive solidity, heading into halftime with a deadlock on the scoreline.
The narrative shifted in the second half when the hosts were awarded a penalty. Georges Mfegue was fouled inside the box by Kamaradini, leading to a crucial moment. Midfielder Sheriff took charge of the spot kick and executed it flawlessly, sending Felix Kyei the wrong way.
Despite falling behind, Medeama launched a relentless offensive, flooding Asante Kotoko’s defense with a barrage of attacks. However, the home team resiliently held their ground, securing all three points as they successfully defended their lead until the final whistle.
