Hearts of Oak triumphed over Bechem United with a 3-2 victory at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on the final day of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.
Facing the threat of relegation for the first time in their history, the Phobians needed a win to secure their place in the top flight.
Hearts of Oak ended the season 14th on the table with 45 points from 34 games, while Bechem United finished 9th with 48 points.
Emmanuel Owusu opened the scoring for Bechem United in the 29th minute, increasing the tension among Hearts of Oak fans.
However, the Phobians quickly responded with an equalizer from their captain, Kofi Agbesimah, just three minutes later, intensifying the relegation battle.
Bechem United regained the lead at the hour mark through Bismark Edjeodji.
Once again, Hearts of Oak equalized, this time through substitute Kelvin Osei Assibey, who scored in the 71st minute.
The decisive moment came when Yaw Amankwa Baafi netted the winning goal, ensuring Hearts of Oak’s survival in the Ghana Premier League for another season.
