Accra Hearts of Oak suffered a surprising 1-0 defeat to newly promoted Basake Holy Stars in their opening match of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Basake Holy Stars got off to a perfect start, scoring just three minutes into their first-ever topflight game. Prince Tweneboa capitalized on a well-delivered cross from the right to head the ball into the net, giving the visitors an early and unexpected advantage.
Despite their wealth of experience, Hearts of Oak struggled to recover from the early goal. They managed to create several opportunities throughout the first half but failed to convert any, leaving them trailing at halftime.
The second half saw Hearts of Oak dominate possession and push hard for an equalizer. However, Basake Holy Stars stood strong defensively, successfully fending off repeated attacks as the Phobians pressed for a late goal.
This victory gives Basake Holy Stars an ideal start to their campaign as they prepare to take on Dreams FC next, while Hearts of Oak will aim to bounce back in their upcoming clash with Heart of Lions.
