The latest set of games in the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season treated fans to some exciting football and thrilling outcomes, and Daily Mail GH captures the biggest lessons and highlights of the matchday from a satirical perspective.
1. TOP-OF-THE-TABLE CONSPIRACY COOKING?
Here at WWLTW, we’re hardly conspiracy theorists, but even we couldn’t have missed the suspicious alignment of figures at the top of the GPL table. How, after nine weeks, all five highest-ranked teams have managed to win, draw, and lose the same number of games — thus accumulating 17 points each — is quite mysterious. Still, we’re not yet scratching the itch to cook up a conspiracy theory — not until Week 10 comes and goes, anyway. Till then, we’ve got our eyes on you, y’all ‘Top Five’. 👉👀👈
2. BEREKUM CHELSEA MIGHT BE THE BEST PACEMAKERS EVER
For the avoidance of doubt, a pacemaker — as used in athletics and in this context — is a runner who leads a middle- or long-distance running event for the first section to ensure a fast time and avoid excessive tactical racing. In Berekum Chelsea, the GPL has found its own pacemaker, with the Blues avoiding defeat in their opening six games to ensure the rest of the field didn’t slack off. Now that the league has gathered some real momentum, Chelsea have eased up somewhat by losing two of their last three matches to allow everyone else to catch up. Impressive, right? 🤷♂️
3. GOOD WEEK: KING FAISAL
Another thing we don’t do yet at WWLTW is swear, which is why you probably wouldn’t believe us if we said Faisal aren’t our favorite target. Given how much the Premier League returnees are struggling this term, it would be truly cruel of us to pick on them. That’s why we’re handing them our ‘Good Week’ slot simply for being consistent with their form (still staying clear of the big ‘W’ bug, eh?), if for nothing else. See, we’re not that bad. . . 🙃
4. BAD WEEK: ELMINA SHARKS
The Sharks may have won over the weekend but, with that victory allowing WAFA to draw level with them on five draws in the ‘top drawer’ league – WWLTW‘s own in-house league table which seeks to crown the team with the most drawn games at the end of the season — the boys from Elmina must be feeling like losers. 🤦♂️
