Ghana promotes over 6,000 police officers ahead of polls

Ghana’s Inspector-General of Police, Mr James Oppong Boanuh has promoted 6,073 Junior Police Officers of various ranks.

This is by provisions of the Police Service Regulation 2012 (C.I.76).

The promoted officers included 657 Inspectors who were promoted as Chief Inspectors; 1,217 Sergeants promoted as Inspectors; 1,731 Corporals promoted as Sergeants and 2,464 Lance Corporals promoted as Corporals.

The promotions took effect from December 1, 2020, the Ghana Police Service said in a Facebook post.

Four other officers of the junior rank whose promotions were withheld due to cases pending against them have also been restored to the ranks they are entitled to.

The last mass promotion was in June 2020 when 1,248 police officers were promoted by President Akufo-Addo following a recommendation from the Police Council.
