Ghana renews fight against illegal mining with 200 soldiers

The Ghana Armed Forces have deployed 200 soldiers to protect water bodies in a renewed fight against illegal mining in the country.

The deployment which took effect on Wednesday 28 April is based on the orders of the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The operation commenced with the Pra River in the Central and Western Region.

A statement issued and signed by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said the ministry of defence and the Ghana Armed Forces are expected to provide a detailed brief on developments and sustainability efforts on Friday.
