Ghana has suffered a nationwide power cut, including the capital, Accra, which the country’s power transmitter blamed on a challenge on its power system.

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) said Sunday’s challenge which emerged at approximately 14:10 hrs local time led to a total system shutdown.

“This led to the interruption in power supply in all parts of the country”, GRIDCo said in a statement.

The lights went out first in the capital, Accra while people in other parts of the country took to social media to express worry over the development which could be the country’s first major blackout since May 2017.
