Ghana’s Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah has suffered second straight relegation from the French Ligue 1 at the end of the 2022-23 season.

The Ghanaian international and his colleague on Sunday evening needed all three points to stay in the French top-flight but couldn’t achieve the goal as they lost at home.

He played full throttle for his team, AJ Auxerre as they suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat at home to return to the French Ligue 2 just a season after gaining promotion.

Though his team lost, he was the third highest rated player with 8.2 and was his team’s best player on the day in their disappointing home loss leading to relegation.

This becomes the second straight relegation for the Black Stars player who suffered relegation from the league in the 2021-22 season with FC Girondins de Bordeaux Before this season’s relegation with AJ Auxerre.

The 24-year-old former RB Salzburg player played 26 matches in the French Ligue 1 this season for the Blue and Whites outfit.
