Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the diaspora have strongly condemned the recent insults directed at President John Agyekum Kufuor by close allies of former President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a press release issued on 19 November, they described the comments, including those by Dela Edem as “unwarranted and distasteful.”

“The NDC under both Presidents Mills and Mahama stopped all projects initiated by Kufuor, especially in the Ashanti Region, causing unnecessary suffering”, they stated.

They further criticized Mahama for previously labelling religious and traditional leaders as “hypocrites” and further questioned “his silence on the attacks” which they say, “shows his true character.”

“Ghanaians know what the NDC is made of and will punish them severely”, they concluded.

GHANAIANS IN THE DIASPORA CONDEMN INSULTS ON FORMER PRESIDENT J.A. KUFUOR BY THE NDC

Many members of the New Patriotic Party in the diaspora are not surprised by the unwarranted hate speeches and tasteless insults at the direct persona of President Kufour by very close loyalists and aides of John Mahama and the NDC. Indeed, they are an elevation from the numerous attacks, insults, lies and propaganda they have hurled at many leaders in the NPP.

Why would Dela Edem publish plain insults against the disability to such an extent as, “President Kuffuor is evil, that’s why he is in a wheelchair, and has been cursed to remain in a wheelchair”. It will be recalled that, then Vice President John Mahama insulted President Kufuor over the latter’s comments regarding the issue of Honourable Kennedy Agyapong being charged with treason by the government of President Atta Mills.

It must be pointed out that President Mahama and the NDC’s disrespect for President Kufuor goes even beyond these unprovoked personal attacks. The NDC governments under both presidents, Mills and Mahama, stopped all projects initiated by president Kufour, especially in Ashanti Region, i.e., the great Ashanti projects. They ensured the collapse of the NHIS with the so-called “capitation pilot in Ashanti for almost 4 years of their administration, which resulted in the avoidable deaths of many in the Ashanti region- an estimated number of 16,000 people had suffered from such recklessness.

The NDC is reputed for creating negative and false stories against public servants and traditional leaders. Mahama and the NDC once took a picture of the Golden Tulip, (now Lancaster) in Kumasi, and published the same to citizens to defame President Kufour- describing them as Kufour’s property.

Quite interestingly, why should anyone be surprised by such false statements from these functionaries of the NDC? Recently, to prove that the presidency is his birthright, President Mahama has insulted religious and traditional leaders as “hypocrites” simply because they opened their doors to Ghana’s vice president. Mahama is on record to have shamefully described Akan’s “after eating fufu, Akans vote “stupidly”.

Indeed, during the height of the NDC presidential primary, it was Kwabena Dufour, himself a candidate in that election, who disclosed that John Mahama was a drunkard who couldn’t be entrusted with the lives of over 30 million people.

It begs the question – what does anyone expect from a party being led by a “drunkard” who described himself as having “dead goat syndrome”?

Let no one be surprised by the deafening silence of the NDC’s flag bearer John Mahama and the leadership of the party days after the unprovoked attack on President Kuffuor by Mr. Edem.

Ghanaians know what the NDC is made of and will punish them severely on December 7th.

Rayan Salisu Kentebaako (NPP Austria Secretary) and
Danny Opoku Antwi (NPP USA Youth Organizer)
