A final year student at the University of Ghana has reportedly committed suicide.
The reason for his death is however not clear, but reports indicate that it was as a result of poor grades in school and was set to repeat a class.
Tributes have been pouring in on social media for Joseph Opuni after news broke of his death.
It is believed the deceased had been contemplating suicide for a while after tweeting about how ‘he wanted death.’
Joseph Opuni replied with “death” to a social media user’s question on what her followers wanted in life.
In June this year, the deceased also tweeted that “sometimes I feel like I’m fading away.”
“So I lost my best friend yesterday. I decided to watch my @Snapchat bitmojis story today to get a laugh And now I’m more hurt..because the story was on both of us…probably the last. This conversation is so us. Joseph, I remember when I told you how happy I was with you in my life and how you were the only person I could rant and exaggerate about anime characters with?” One of Joseph Opuni’s friends posted on social media.
Another Twitter user tweeted about how the late Joseph Opuni never opened up on the problems he was facing.
“All this feelings bottled up in you and you barely opened up” another Twitter user with the handle @thatboyMorsh tweeted.
His Twitter header photo also had the caption, “I’m the one who does the killing”.
Suicide at UG
In March 2017, students and authorities of the University of Ghana woke up to the horrific scene of a final year female student lying in a pool of blood after allegedly jumping to her death.
Jennifer Nyarko, a Consumer Science student, allegedly jumped from the fourth floor of her Akuafo Hall Annex A room 407 and was found by porters with severe head injuries.
She was later pronounced dead by health officials at the Legon hospital.
It was widely believed that the late Jennifer Nyarko suffered from depression leading to her untimely death.
