Officials have disclosed a notable uptick in Ghana’s agriculture sector, which expanded by 4.5 per cent in 2023.

This growth, according to Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, was driven by significant expansions in the Livestock, Crops, and Fishing subsectors, recording increases of 6.5, 4.8, and 4.1 per cent, respectively.

Dr Adam emphasized the turnaround in Ghana’s agriculture sector, which had been grappling with negative growth in previous years until 2023. The positive trajectory signals a promising outlook for the country’s agricultural industry, crucial for food security and economic stability.

However, amidst the agricultural sector’s growth, the Minister highlighted a contraction in the industry sector, declining by 1.2% in 2023. This downturn was primarily attributed to negative growth recorded in the Electricity and Construction subsectors, with declines of 10.9% and 9.9%, respectively.

The contraction in the industry sector was notable in the first three quarters of 2023. However, there was a noteworthy recovery in the 4th Quarter, with a rebound of 1.6% growth, indicating a potential reversal of the downward trend.
