The 24-year-old Ghanaian grabbed his first and second league goals for his side this season in their 3-1 home win.
Academica de Coimbra opened the scoring five minutes into the match with a goal from Marcus Paolo.
Wilson Kenidy restored parity three minutes later to make it one all before halftime.
The Ghanaian versatile forward, Barnes put his side back in the lead with a typical striker’s goal three minutes after the hour mark to make it 2-1 to the Black and Whites.
Four minutes after restoring the home side’s lead, the Ghanaian was in the mood for more and added his second on the night to hand Academica a 3-1 home victory to lift them two places above automatic relegation spot in the Portuguese second tier.
