Three more patients have died from COVID-19 related symptoms in Ghana sending the country’s total number of fatalities from 333 to 336.

Delivering his 21st COVID update Sunday, President Akufo-Addo said the country’s active cases currently stands at 879 with 54,005 recoveries.

The country has run 674,812 tests as of January 1 and has detected 55,220 positive cases.

Unlike Ghana, countries including Nigeria, South Africa and the UK have detected a new strain of the virus sparking renewed fear among their citizens.

“Our scientists tell us that the genetic make-up of the virus in the country has still not changed”, President Akufo-Addo clarified adding: “The Ghana Health Service, with support of relevant institutions, continues to monitor events closely and will advise Government on the way forward”.
