President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed strong confidence in Ghana’s economic recovery, asserting that the country’s economy has exceeded initial expectations.
In his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament on January 3, 2025, the President emphasized that Ghana is not in a state of financial distress, despite the challenges faced in recent years. He attributed the positive economic outlook to the strategic actions taken by the government, which have been pivotal in stabilizing the economy.
“We are not in financial distress, and our economy has outperformed initial projections,” President Akufo-Addo stated, underscoring the resilience of the nation’s economy.
He highlighted the successful completion of three consecutive reviews of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme, with the most recent review concluded on December 2, 2024. This review led to a disbursement of $360 million to support Ghana’s ongoing recovery efforts.
The President also acknowledged the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, noting its profound impact. However, he emphasized that the nation’s robust recovery is a testament to the government’s dedication and the resilience of the Ghanaian people.
“As a nation, we faced immense difficulties during the pandemic, but the strong recovery we have witnessed speaks to the effectiveness of our policies and our collective resilience,” President Akufo-Addo said.
He reassured Ghanaians that the government remains committed to strengthening the economy and continuing efforts to build a more resilient and prosperous future.
