The Ministry of Interior has extended the curfew on Walewale and its surrounding areas, now running from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, following recommendations from the North East Regional Security Council.

The curfew was initially enforced due to a rise in violent attacks along the Walewale-Wulugu section of the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway, where passengers were targeted, and buses were set ablaze.

Between February 11 and February 15, at least 13 travelers, including an infant, lost their lives, while three buses were completely destroyed, prompting the government’s swift intervention.

Despite opposition from residents, who cited concerns over military brutality and other issues, the Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has officially renewed the curfew, with the new directive taking effect from February 22, 2025.
