The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to eliminating illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. He assured Ghanaians that the issue is being treated with the highest level of urgency.
Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Wednesday, Buah underscored the government’s relentless efforts to address the crisis and protect the country’s natural resources.
“We are treating the matter as an emergency. We’re working around the clock, 24 hours a day. These matters must be dealt with all the urgency and emergency they deserve,” he stated.
He emphasized President John Dramani Mahama’s strong focus on tackling the galamsey menace, highlighting that significant strides have already been made in addressing the issue.
Buah expressed confidence in the government’s approach, assuring citizens that all necessary steps are being taken to combat illegal mining effectively.
“As a Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, I can tell the people of Ghana that we are dealing with this matter with all the emergency measures, all the urgency, the seriousness, and that they can be assured that we will be relentless and we will win the fight,” he declared.
His remarks reaffirm the Mahama administration’s determination to restore degraded lands and curb the environmental and social challenges posed by illegal mining.
