The Ministry of National Security has announced a ban on drone usage at the Black Star Square and its surrounding areas during the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025.

In a statement signed by Lily Fati Soale, Acting Chief Director for the Ministry of Information, the government clarified that the restriction applies to all drones, whether recreational or commercial. This measure, according to the statement, is aimed at safeguarding the safety and security of visiting dignitaries, guests, and the general public.

The directive highlights the government’s commitment to creating a secure environment for the high-profile event. “This ban is an essential part of our efforts to ensure safety during the inauguration ceremony,” the release stated.

Drone operators have been urged to comply with the directive and respect the outlined security protocols. The Ministry emphasized that strict adherence to these measures would be critical to the success and smooth running of the event.

The government further appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the directive, reiterating that public safety remains a top priority.
