The government has unveiled plans to revise the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Act to enforce the purchase of locally made products and strengthen Ghana’s manufacturing sector. This initiative is a key part of the 24-hour economy policy aimed at boosting industrial growth and encouraging local consumption.

Speaking at the 2025 Post-Budget Workshop in Parliament, Goosie Tanoh, the Presidential Advisor on the 24-hour economy, emphasized that the policy seeks to drive transformation in manufacturing while fostering national support for homegrown products.

He highlighted an initiative called “Go Ghana,” which encourages citizens to actively contribute to national development by supporting local businesses and maintaining environmental cleanliness.

“To institutionalize this, we need to review the PPA Act to provide guaranteed demand for locally produced goods. This approach has been successfully implemented by Asian economies, which prioritized local production and are now globally competitive,” Tanoh explained.

Although the policy will primarily be led by the private sector, the government intends to allocate limited funding during the mid-year budget review to support its implementation.
