The Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equipping the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) as part of a broader strategy to enhance national security.

During his maiden working visit to the GIS, he emphasized the government’s plan to modernize the security services by leveraging public-private partnerships (PPP) and technology. As part of these efforts, all agencies under the ministry will soon eliminate cash transactions to improve efficiency and transparency.

Highlighting the challenges of government funding, the Minister stressed the importance of private-sector collaboration. “I come to the Ministry of Interior with two things in mind. Knowing very well that government funding is a real challenge. We will be looking at how we can partner private individuals, whether profit or non-profit, to improve the services within the Ministry of Interior,” he stated.

He assured that while the government will explore more PPP arrangements, national security will remain a priority. “So you will be seeing a lot more PPP within the Ministry of Interior, where it is very necessary to make sure that those PPPs do not interfere with our internal security,” he added.

The Minister urged GIS officers to stay committed to the government’s developmental agenda and work towards strengthening border security.
