Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed the government’s plans to enhance local infrastructure through the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP). This initiative will provide Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with earth-moving equipment to support road construction and other infrastructure projects.

Speaking at a rally in Wulensi, Northern Region, Dr. Bawumia highlighted that the DRIP aims to empower local assemblies to tackle road and infrastructure challenges effectively. “We now have a new policy that we’re going to implement, which is basically the District Road Improvement Programme. Every district is going to be given a set of road equipment to work on your roads,” he stated.

The DRIP, funded by the District Assembly Common Fund and various donor partners, will provide essential equipment to all districts. Dr. Bawumia confirmed, “I’m happy to note that all the equipment that we have ordered has arrived. Every district will receive a set, which includes an excavator, backhoe loader, wheel loader, compact roller, and tipper truck.”

Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence that the programme will significantly impact local infrastructure development and address ongoing challenges faced by MMDAs.
