The Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced that a reduction in gas supply from the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) could necessitate load management over the next three weeks.

In a joint statement released on Thursday, June 13, GRIDCo and ECG explained that “due to maintenance works being undertaken by a gas supplier in Nigeria,” there has been a significant reduction in gas supply since Wednesday, June 12, 2024. This maintenance is expected to last three weeks.

“The maintenance has caused a reduction in overall power generation capacity in Ghana which could result in load management over the period of the work,” the statement added.

Both companies informed the public that the decrease in gas supply has already led to power supply interruptions in various parts of the country. They assured that efforts are being made in collaboration with other stakeholders in the power sector to optimize available resources and minimize the impact on consumers.

GRIDCo and ECG concluded the statement with an apology, saying, “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.”
