A routine disconnection of water supply turned violent when a staff with the Ashanti South Unit of the Ghana Water Limited was physically assaulted by a customer.

The altercation arose after the employee disconnected water supply to the customer’s home due to unpaid bills totalling around GHC500.

The customer, known only as Kobby, confronted the worker about the disconnection, questioning the action taken against his property.

Despite the staff member’s attempts to explain the company’s policy regarding overdue payments, Kobby reportedly became agitated and proceeded to lock the worker inside the gated compound house before assaulting him.

The worker, facing back and waist pains, placed a distress call to the office, prompting management and police officers from Suntreso to intervene and rescue him.

The assailant has been arrested as police at the Suntreso Division investigate the incident.

Public relations officer of the Ghana Water Limited in the Ashanti Region, Ebenezer Padi Narh, condemned the incident.

He was concerned about the safety of workers, particularly meter readers, who are now living in fear.

Narh emphasized that the company will not tolerate such behaviour from customers that could impede its operations.

The afflicted worker is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, and the company reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety of its employees and the uninterrupted operation of its services.
