Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has nominated a second batch of Regional and Sector Ministers, as he continues to shape his administration for his return to power.

The list, announced on Thursday, highlights key appointments aimed at advancing the government’s agenda for economic transformation and social equity.

The nominations, submitted to Parliament through the Speaker, include three Regional Ministers and nine Ministers of State tasked with overseeing crucial sectors such as education, agriculture, trade, and youth development.

For the Regional Ministers, Wilbert Petty Brentum has been nominated to represent Western North, Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere for Central Region, and Joseph Nelson for Western Region.

Among the Ministers of State, some prominent figures have been selected for strategic portfolios. Kwame Governs Agbodza, a seasoned legislator, is slated to head the Ministry of Roads and Highways, a critical sector for infrastructure development. Eric Opoku, known for his grassroots engagement, will oversee the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, a strong advocate for gender equality, has been named to lead the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, while George Opare-Addo, a former youth activist, takes charge of the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.

Haruna Iddrisu, a political stalwart, will head the Ministry of Education, tasked with steering the government’s ambitious education reforms. Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare, another seasoned lawmaker, will lead the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, positioning the country for regional trade dominance.

This second batch complements the President’s earlier appointments, as Mahama moves to fulfil campaign promises of inclusive development and the creation of opportunities for all Ghanaians.

In a statement, the Presidency noted that the appointments were made after careful consideration of the nominees’ competence and commitment to national service. The list is now subject to parliamentary approval.

“The selected individuals represent a blend of experience, innovation, and dedication to the service of our nation,” the statement read.

President Mahama’s administration is under significant public scrutiny as it begins its tenure, with many expecting the new government to address economic challenges and deliver on campaign pledges.

Parliament is expected to vet and approve the nominees in the coming weeks.
